JILL FREEDMAN: You Sound Like My Fucking Mother

JILL FREEDMAN, 1939 - 2019. A legend of NYC street photography, she traveled the world and dedicated her life to the still image. She never strayed far from her idealism and the endless body of work documents it all.

Her many enormous photo projects, like living with and documenting the NYC firefighter and police earned her well received books. Jill spent her time making work rather than promoting it. Despite multiple respected publications and gallery shows, many would agree she was under-appreciated in her life. Friends of Jill knew her as someone who’s wit could cut trees and never held her tongue on issues she cared about.
